Editorial Independence
Hotworx Franchise Intel exists because prospective franchise investors deserve access to honest, data-driven analysis — not sales pitches disguised as research. The franchise industry is built on information asymmetry: franchisors control the narrative, brokers are incentivized to close deals, and independent analysis is scarce.
This site is funded by Lendesca, a financial services company that helps franchise investors navigate SBA lending and business financing. We are transparent about this relationship: Lendesca funds the research, but does not influence the conclusions.
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or compensated by Hotworx International, any Hotworx franchisee, or any franchise broker. No one at Hotworx reviews, approves, or edits our content before publication.
Our editorial team makes independent judgments about what to analyze, what to highlight, and what to critique. When the data is positive for Hotworx, we report it. When it raises concerns, we report that too. Readers should expect the same standard of candor they'd get from a good franchise attorney or independent consultant.
Methodology
Data Sources
Our analysis draws from multiple primary and secondary sources:
- Franchise Disclosure Documents (FDDs): The primary source for investment ranges, fee structures, financial performance representations (Item 19), and franchisee obligations. We analyze each annual FDD filing when it becomes available.
- Public records: State franchise registration filings, SBA loan data (via FOIA), business formation records, and court filings related to franchise disputes.
- Owner interviews: Direct conversations with current and former Hotworx franchisees, conducted under conditions that allow them to speak candidly. We verify ownership claims before publishing accounts.
- Industry data: Market research from IBISWorld, Franchise Grade, FRANdata, and the International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) for competitive and market context.
- Financial modeling: Our break-even and unit economics models are built on FDD data, verified owner inputs, and standard financial assumptions. We publish our assumptions alongside every projection.
Update Cadence
Core analysis pages are updated when new FDD filings are released (typically annually). Market and competitive data is refreshed quarterly. Owner experience content is added on an ongoing basis as new interviews are completed. All pages display a "last updated" indicator.
